The Nanchang Uprising of August 1, 1927, marked the first armed resistance against the reactionary Kuomintang regime and signaled the beginning of the Communist Party of China's independent leadership of the revolutionary armed forces and the creation of a revolutionary army. Therefore, August 1 was designated as the founding day of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
