The customs of the Laba Festival
Laba Congee, also known as "Seven Treasures and Five Flavors Congee", "Buddha porridge", "Everyone's meal", etc., is a Congee made from a variety of ingredients. The earliest written record of Laba Congee is in the Song Dynasty.
Wu Zimu of the Southern Song Dynasty recorded in the Record of Dreams: "On the eighth day of this month, the temple is called Laba. The temples such as Dasha have five flavor Congee, which is called Laba Congee." China has a history of drinking Laba Congee for more than a thousand years.
